Supporting your foundation phase child is crucial for their academic and personal development. Here are some tips for parents to help their children during this fundamental phase.
Tips for parents of a foundation phase child
1. Establish a routine
- Create a consistent daily routine that includes designated study or homework time.
- Ensure a healthy balance between schoolwork, play and rest.
2. Encourage reading
- Foster a love for reading by having a variety of age-appropriate books at home.
- Read to your child regularly and encourage them to read aloud.
3. Practise basic skills
- Reinforce basic skills like counting, writing and recognising letters and numbers in an informal way.
- Use educational games and activities to make learning fun.
4. Stay involved in homework
- Review and discuss homework assignments with your child.
- Offer guidance and support without doing the work for them.
